Almaty – Boguty – Almaty
The entire trip will take place in one day. The fantastic and unusually red Boguty Mountains are two massifs – Ulken Boguty and Bala-Boguty, located to the east of Almaty. The name comes from the word “bugu” – deer. Literally means mountains where there are many deer. One of the first to visit the mountains was Ch. Valikhanov during the expedition to Issyk-Kul in 1856.
These mountains are the foothills of the Zailiyskiy Alatau mountain system and stretch between two rivers, Charyn and Chilik. The unusual thing about these mountains is that you don't have to climb them, on the contrary, you have to go down to them by road. And only after going down to the steppes, you can get to the mountains.
Once in the mountains after the rain, when the clay becomes even redder from the moisture, you will involuntarily remember the landscape of the planet Mars. And the relief of the mountains itself was deformed under the influence of rain and wind and formed canyons that look like a smaller copy of the Charyn Canyon. The landscape of these places is simply stunning. In our city, the Boguty Mountains are rightly called Martian landscapes. The feeling that you are constantly present on Mars.
Trip Timing
- 1 day
- 2.5 hours (8:00-10:30). Transfer from Almaty to Boguty Mountains.
- 1.5 hours (10:30-12:00). Travel along the mountains.
- 1 hour (12:00-13:00). Walk along the red landslide and Azhyrzhar canyons.
- 30 min (13:00-13:30) Lunch.
- 2 hours (13:30-15:30). Walk to the adit and rock paintings.
- 3 h (15:30-18:30). Return to Almaty.
